Parrot in the backyard!!

The avatar was figured out. I didn't do anything more but when I logged on today it had changed. It must have taken a while to recognize.

But the the real point.

I woke up to my sister freaking out about a noise coming from the kitchen.
It was loud but it was just resonating. It was really outside.

I said it was just a bird, and to prove it I took her outside to see, and found a parrot sitting in our backyard!!!

We've been dealing with it all morning. Called our mom and some friends to tell about it, and then have it contained for now until we can see if it has an owner. I hope it does. It has a tag on it's leg. ;\

I was going to move it from this small plastic pool under our deck onto the grass and it crawled up my arm and sat on my shoulder. But it stopped squakling after that. It calms down a lot when we're around.

I'm afraid to feed it anything. It happily drank some water and we gave it some crackers (lol) but I'm not even sure we should.

Pointers - if you can.

it depends what type of parrot,..... what does it look like?

most likely if you call your local vets and animal shelters and tell them you found it you will find the owner.
as for care... it depends on the bird,.. but all parrots can eat fruit

If it's a large-ish bird, I wouldn't recommend letting it sit on your shoulder long. It's a dominace thing with them, who ever sits the highest has "command." I've heard the saying that "a lot of pirates have parrots on their shoulders...and a lot of them wear eyepatches, too."

And I'm not sure about ALL parrots, but macaws tend to like fruit. And, well..seeds.

James River Animal Hospital will take exotic birds and try and find the owner if you can't (it's by Godfather's Pizza in that brown shopping center).
We had a dove in our back yard once...

Oh, no.
I never reposted a journal about it because I was so mad.

Our neighbors wanted it and kinda just took it away and then it flew away from them. I'm relieved it can fly but I feel bad for whomever it really belongs to. I wanted to get it back to them.
